Keeping a Diary

Hey guys!

So if you were reading my blog back in July you'll remember I put up a post about keeping a diary and how i've never been very good at it. Well since that post on the 2nd July i've been keeping one, and i've actually kept it up to date.

I know, i'm pretty amazed too,

I know it's only been nearly 3 months, but a lot happened in those three months and I'm glad I have it to look back on. I wrote about everything that happened in Mexico, as well as just every day things and conversations that I had back home.

I was thinking to myself, I probably won't ever read back through it, and so I was wondering what it's purpose is, and it's actually been quite therapeutic. It's nice to just have somewhere at the end of the day to write down what you've done, and who you've been talking to just so you remember, but also if you've got things you don't really want to talk about there is somewhere for it.

Now i'm not under any circumstances saying that if you are having problems with someone or you are upset to use a diary instead of talking to someone. But it's a good first step.

In the past i've kept them, and it's quite funny to look back and see what I thought was really important at the time (usually some nonsense) but this one has been somewhere to write down things that had been confusing me, and when you write things down sometimes they can make more sense. It's also been a good way to reflect on my choices, seeing things from an outside perspective, as if you were reading about a character in a book can make yourself see things that you wouldn't about yourself.

And I quite like that.

I'd also been briefly keeping one around february/march/april time, and it's funny how little things that I would write about, as an unlikely possibility back then have actually turned out to be true and i've been writing about them in my most recent one.

I think it's good to have the memories written down. And whilst some days you might think why am I writing about eating a salad? or why do I care that I binge watched gossip girl today? Some days will be important to remember :)

Do you keep a diary? What do you use it for?

As ever, all my love, Amylou x

  1. I used to write diaries all the time when I was younger - I kept one up for about two years before! Now, though, I've kind of drifted away from them but I feel as though I should start again because some of the stuff happening right now could be good to reflect on a bit later. I agree that writing things down can definitely clear some things up, so thank you for inspiring me to try to get back into writing them!

    1. I kept them all the time as a kid too! Then I stopped at about the time when I started high school. Then every year I try to keep one but I just forget about it! It is really good to look back on what you've been doing and to think about why you let things happen the way they do! Hope you get back into it! :) xxx
